Brilliant, Ruchi. That is exactly why I cannot go out to do any holiday shopping today, even if I don't get the "great deals." I can feel the greed and desperation, and it is overwhelming to me. Shabbat Shalom!! -Ilene
And how! I get overwhelmed at the thought of going out. For those who are able to get great deals on things they needs, and are able to behave like, um, a person, kudos. For the ones that make the news, well, oy.
hmm the other side of it is that people wait until Black Friday sales to get things they need and or want which they otherwise would not be able to afford. There is nothing wrong with needing or wanting, not planning to get a good deal. I used to LOVE Black Friday because of that! I stocked up on things I wouldn't ordinarily be able to buy such as socks and PJs for my kids or something special I would like ot get for my mother or husband. I don't do BF now mostly because I'm broke at the moment, but it's a very useful plan for a frugal family!
Perfect. Shabbat Shalom.
Sholmo HaMelech was one wise dude.
I was thinking of running over to Goods 4 Less. I need some gift bags. But I think I'll make cholent and turkey noodle soup instead.
I went out for Black Friday for the first time in years. I wanted two items for over three months that I could get for at least 50% off with coupons. I consider that worth it. I am already back home and enjoying my loom. And the challah is baking for tonight! Two feasts in a night!
It's like the news story I saw about the mom and daughter who were standing in line because the 17-year old boy in the family "needed" a 42-inch TV. Yes, needed.
Sigh.
Black Friday is not as big here as it is in the US, but it's trickling over.
I can see arguments on both sides. The deals could be good enough to get things you might not necessarily be able to afford, or
Maya, Jessica, and Gayla, welcome to OOTOB! I think both are true: the consumerism is insane, and you can snag a really good deal. A frugal family might do better staying home. People generally spend less when not shopping the sales and deals.
