Last night I had a dream that I was speaking in front of a large crowd of people and no one was listening. Everyone was shmoozing with their friends and I had zero control of the room. I asked people to quiet down to no avail. Finally, frustrated and embarrassed, I left. The host was really upset that she had organized this whole event and I didn’t even speak.
Why am I telling you all this?
Everyone, and I mean everyone, who has achieved any level of success, has imposter syndrome. Including me.
Imposter syndrome means you regularly indulge in limiting beliefs such as:
“I’m not a REAL professional.”
“I’m just pretending.”
“I’m not as good/smart/interesting/proficient as others.”
“If people knew who I really was, they would not respect my expertise.”
I once saw a social media reel in which Brad Pitt was asked his opinion on something or another. It was almost imperceptible, but I could see his eyes flick away for half a second before he gave a short rueful laugh and offer his opinion.
But I caught it.
I knew that look. That look meant “how would I know?”
Y’all. BRAD ACTUAL PITT HAS IMPOSTER SYNDROME.
So what’s the fix?
Remind yourself:
No one is perfect.
You have value to share with the world.
Your experiences matter.
Limiting beliefs are just that: beliefs. They’re not real. They’re just fake news.
Greatness is what you believe you can be.
Be free of limiting beliefs.
Happy Passover!
